Over the course of three weeks, we traveled from the rolling hills of Snowdonia to the rugged coastline of Pembrokeshire, and from the historic city of Cardiff to the charming seaside town of Aberaeron. Along the way, we encountered friendly locals, visited magnificent castles and abbeys, and sampled the local cuisine. This diary is a record of our adventures, filled with vivid descriptions of the sights, sounds, and experiences that made our journey so unforgettable.
Day 1: Arrival in Snowdonia
We arrived in Snowdonia on a bright and sunny morning, the air crisp and invigorating. Our first stop was the village of Beddgelert, nestled in the heart of the national park. The village is named after a legendary dog, Gelert, who is said to have saved the life of Prince Llywelyn the Great. We visited the grave of Gelert, a poignant reminder of the bond between humans and animals.
After a leisurely lunch in a traditional Welsh pub, we set off on a hike to Llyn Dinas, a beautiful lake nestled in the foothills of Snowdon. The trail wound its way through meadows and forests, and we were rewarded with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the lake, soaking up the sun and the scenery.
Day 2: Climbing Snowdon
No visit to Snowdonia would be complete without climbing Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. We set off early on a clear and crisp morning, determined to reach the summit before the crowds. The climb was challenging, but the views from the top were worth every step. We were able to see for miles in every direction, and we could even make out the Isle of Man in the distance.
After spending some time at the summit, we made our way back down the mountain, taking a different route that led us through a series of stunning glacial lakes. We reached the bottom tired but exhilarated, and we were glad that we had made the effort to climb Snowdon.
Day 3: Exploring the Llyn Peninsula
On our third day, we left Snowdonia and headed to the Llyn Peninsula, a beautiful stretch of coastline located in the northwest of Wales. Our first stop was the village of Aberdaron, where we visited the ruins of an ancient monastery and enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch at a local restaurant.
