Pyle's Early Life and Education

Howard Pyle was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on March 5, 1853. He showed an early interest in art, and at the age of 14, he began studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. At the academy, Pyle studied under Thomas Eakins, one of the leading American painters of the time.
